Graaff-Reinet Has Its Share Of Fame

Graaff-Reinet has had its share of fame, too, dating right back to historical times. In fact, it is due to her reminiscent book, “The Plains of Cambedoo”, that the land surrounding Graaff-Reinet was proclaimed theCamdebooNational Park”.

As if this is not enough, Graaff-Reinet is a town absolutely saturated with history and historical buildings, and is surrounded by incredible fossil finds by world-famous palaeontologists.

Many of the farms in the environs of Graaff-Reinet have farm museums that include rare samples that are found nowhere else, with many of the farm owners working closely with researchers from various educational institutions and universities. Rock art paintings and engraving also make for fascinating study, too, featuring Bushman Art at its most authentic.

Explore the magical Valley of Desolation which is at its most perfect in the gentle late afternoon light. Graaff-Reinet is well-known for its warm hospitality and fine food.
